Clay C. Johnson, AIBD, CPBD

Clay Johnson founded Johnson Design in 1982, starting his career designing and building residential remodels in Davis, California.  Since that time the range of his projects have expanded to include Zero Net Energy homes, affordable housing projects, accessory dwelling units and whole house retrofits.  He specializes in integrating the applied science of high performance homes with his clients’ aesthetic and functional needs.  In 1991 he designed and oversaw the rehabilitation of the historic Winters Opera House.  He has won numerous awards including two AIBD California Designer’s Choice Awards and was a regional winner of the TrusJoist MacMillan Home Design competition. He has been published in Fine Homebuilding Magazine and Better Homes and Gardens Home Plan Ideas.  He has been a member of the American Institute of Building Design (AIBD) since 1990, and has served on the board as state president and continues to produce and present design and building science educational events.

Certifications

Certified Professional Building Designer as tested by the National Council of Building Designer Certification and a member of the American Institute of Building Design.
